Please do not post about Apple mobile devices in the Mac forum

Just a quick notice to point your attention to the fact that you should not post about iPods, iPhones or iPads in the Mac forum. The Mac forum is soley for Apple computers, laptops and servers. If you have a problem with any Apple 'mobile' devices please post them in the Netbooks. PDA'a and Phones forum here: Netbooks, PDA and Phones

We try and keep them seperate because their mobile devices often integrate with third party systems such as wireless systems and Windows computers for example as well as the devices not being run by OSX, which is, generally, what teh Mac thread is about.

Thank you.

Why is there no iOS section? PDA's are prehistoric!!

Wow, I didn't see your earlier reply so I apologise.

Essentially, the Netbooks, PDA and Phones forum is a legacy forum and was created way before tablets and smartphones came along in the form and function they have now.

As we cannot easily (yet) rename the forum without breaking Google - for which we would be penalised - we have kept it named the same but with the prime focus on mobile computing, a likely title for it's new name.

As iOS was different to OSX and was essentially a mobile OS it has gone to live in there. The reasons we do not have a seperate iOS forum are that:

A. We try not to create forums for each and every subject under the sun. It confuses people and clutters up the place

B. Should iOS ever be renamed we'd be stuck once more with a forum we couldn't easily rename and have people complaining about us having forums labled up for old technologies

C. It's a mobile OS and should live with the others

And yes, we know people still post iOS questions in the Mac forum (Macs are not iOS people!) and we move them when we see them. Unfotunately we can't think for them y'know.

Thanks for thorough explanation but it's VERY counter intuitive. It's just common sense that Android and iOS should have their own sections. Sorry don't mean to sound offensive.

Perhaps what could be done is to use the prefix tag system so that filtering can be applied that way a mobile os forum can cater for anything both now and in the future.

Is it not just a case of using a 301 redirect? That tells Google to transfer PageRank etc. to the new URL.

Depending upon how long it will be before the new forum is up-and-running, would it be possible to sort out the thread prefixes for the Netbooks, PDA and Phones forum? e.g.

Edit. @plexer beat me to it. :)

People still use blackberry's??

I think there might be a couple left. :)

That said, I have never seen any Blackberry-related threads in that forum. Perhaps we should get rid of the prefix altogether?

Looks at desk... Yep I see some Blackberrys here... looks in pocket yep got one in that a well. Admittedly the end is coming sooner rather than later but they are still quite popular in high security sectors.

Really! that many in one area, I seriously cannot remember the last time I saw one, everyone here either uses iphones or Android based, odd few nokia's but not a blackberry for a loooong time, last business customer who had one (liked the keyboard) went at least 18 months ago. You'll be telling me you've still got PC's with Vista on next! ;-)
