Anyone have these (attached)? No specific schedule. Some are recent. Taking lots of space. How are these managed, why are they there, are they safe to move or remove?

if you search this site you will find reference to @Matt40 's wonderful utility which will zip the backups for you and remove them after a set amount of time.

Tidybackups

they are created ever time SIMS is upgraded or the database is patched. In reality you should only need to keep one as I doubt that you will want to go back any earlier.

I have robocopy set on a schedule to move them off the server onto a NAS, that way a huge number of backups can be kept (not that it's really necessary to keep many).

i try to keep as many as i can. never going to full restore, but useful to restore to a test server and view data sometimes, as a way of auditing. also to copy back odd reports, templates if they get corrupted.

you should be able to zip / rar those to a third of the size. Then keep them there or move off to regular backup store.

They are not managed, but it is safe to move / remove. Presumably you have some other backup system, working at least nightly...
