Drive mapping GPP

Anyone have issues with mapping drives through group policy preferences windows 7. My dcs are s2008 r2. The drives map no problem but they should be hidden. Sometimes they will be and the next not. So frustrating

Have you check the event logs why it's failing?

Yes and group policy results display as success too. I didn't have reconnect ticked. It seems to happen if a user logs on and off and then on again. It doesn't happen in a morning after its been shutdown. I made some changes tonight that will hopefully resolve.

Are you meaning that you are trying to hide the shared drives within Windows explorer.

 

I found a way of creating a custom ADM I found on Internet which can hide any drive letter within Windows explorer. It's at work but if this is the issue I can post the info up in the morning.

I have the same issue with printers in GPO. You make a change and it doesn't propegate or always work. So frustrating!!

I used to use a custom adm for hiding drives that's worked very well but still had to use vbs to add them. I would like to be able to use gpp for everything but it's hit and miss. I do use it for printers though I had an issue with it initially that I resolved by creating an item that deletes all network printer onnections first. Works a treat now. I use shortcuts nd files through it too using item level targeting. It's just this bloody mapped drive issue. I use man profiles too. I could understand if I used roaming.

Make sure it is set to "replace" the drives every time you log on.

I assume you using login script to do these under group policy as that is what I know how you can do it in GP so far. If so what kind of script you are using?

No I'm using group policy preferences. No logos scripts.

 

Il try replace but as they are using man profiles I didn't think it would work

I supposed you've checked that another GPO/GPP isn't also mapping the drives? Some legacy setting or script lurking around. Using the "update" in GPP should be fine, if it sees a drive is already mapped then all it will do is update the attributes.

 

Update is what I use (with hidden drives) and have no issues.

 

edit: Do you select the drive letter and name the drive map? I do, don't know if that matters.
