Well he got them off the website before they had intended to go live and posted them on twitter and as they own the copyright on the images it's a perfectly legal stance to take, just because a picture is on a public website doesn't mean you can take a copy and put it elsewhere without the copyright holders permission.

It is pretty pathetic and passing-the-blame to be honest, he didn't do any hacking, didn't gain any unauthorised access - as no authorisation was asked for - just that their web admins are useless and need to learn to chmod.

Did he take a copy though, or did he link to them? If he linked to a page on their site then surely he's done nothing wrong?

However, there's a difference between:

 

a) "Copyright is Serious Business!! To the Police".

b) A quiet phone call to the kid, asking him to remove them from twitter until tomorrow when the kit's been released. Before engaging option "a". Bribe him with a free strip or something.

 

b) is much better option from a PR point of view, especially since the problem only occurred due to their incompetence in the first place.

If that is not the case, it would be up to the club to take action - not the police.

true, it's not a criminal offence to copy things (despite what FACT et al would have you believe). You can still go to court for copyright infringement,it would be a civil matter and you don't get arrested for it.

TBH the laws are getting plainly stupid in most countries. You have large corporations that can do whatever they want for decades and only get brought into line when there is a huge public outcry but individuals will be charged for anything the cops can make stick - valid and true or not.

 

It is just like a school really, bullies are used to enforce conformity to the expected norms, now in society the same thing is true and to the same petty extent. The popular/rich set the rules and then these are enforced on everyone.

 

Its lucky in this instance that it was brought to the attention of everyone and they realised it was stupid, if that had not happened I don't think that sence would have prevailed.

 

Keep your heads down and hire your freedom a newspaper and a track at a time from the new power brokers.
