Useless Purchase

I just had to share my latest useless purchase, after the disapointment with the ipad3 I purchased this! I like Japanese things and Fruit machines so I couldnt resist this!

 

 

I really wanted a pinball machine called Medusa (Bally) from 1982, maybe when I'm richer!

 

I dont suppose someone can tell the name of this machine?

I especially like that you've just plonked it in the kitchen, after all where else would you put a fruit machine?

How much power does it use?

errr power? it has a transformer inside to convery mains 240 to 110 but as for actual wattage I could only guess. I plonked it in the kitchen as I can play it whilst looking at the cooker:) (that and I've no where else to plonk it right now)

 

It has physical reels and an LCD overlay which is something I've not seen over here. It takes tokens not cash and you have to stop each of the reels with the button underneath so its more skill based than a gamble.

 

edit. it flashes and makes sounds too.

It's a Williams Addams Family which I shouldn't have bought as the money was set aside for a plasterer, guess which new skill I learned during one summer holiday

That's because gambling by chance is illegal in Japan. Instead you get machines like this one which give out tokens instead of cash so they remain within the law. The tokens are then exchanged for toys, all of which have a cash value attached to them much higher than the actual worth of the toy. The winner then "sells" the toy back to the arcade for the cash value, thus neatly sidestepping the gambling law whilst still allowing it to effectively continue. This is all 100% legal. Japanese law is FUN!

In a pub, OMG! One of those in good condition will set you back between £2,000 - £3,000 and spare parts cost a fortune!

@hit OMG that's only the best pinball machine ever! (you probably know that) I Wasted so much money on one of those... The only reason I want the Medusa more is that we owned it when I was a kid.

@FN-GM No misses that's why I can afford to buy it.

indeed it is and a brilliant investment, I bought it for about £1,500 3 years ago and spent quite a bit of time working on it to get it back to nearly new and now it's worth quite a lot more. I was thinking of trading it in for a Twilight Zone (wide format) table but they are incredibly rare now and the price of a decent one is astronomical
