required eee pc 1001ha recover disc/iso for a students computer all gcse work on it

just had a netbook stuck on my desk to fix

 

it belongs to a student and it has all of his work on for his gcse blah blah blah

 

he does not have a recovery disc for it does anyone have an iso of the disc they might give me access to

 

i am recoving what i can but the os is kaput nothing on the c drive

 

acording to the manual i press f9 on boot and then let the recovery disc run

 

it does have a hidden partition with a pe setup on but im not sure if the recovery is stored on this partition.

 

any help much appretiated

TBH, a recovery disc will most likely wipe the drive anyway. I'd try and recover what you can from the drive directly before trying that.

Just take the HDD out of the PC and pulg it into another PC with a working OS on - make sure you boot from the working OS and then once in you will be able to drag the data right off of it.

 

All this assumes that the HDD is physicaly ok though....

or boot it from a knoppix cd/ usb stick=- or similar live linux CD - This will let you mount hte disk and copy any information off onto a network location. Then you can reinstall and copy the data back again.

can you use an OEM version of XP ? if you have a disc / ISO kicking around ?

just using an linux disc to recover what i can i just need the recovery media now

It may not necessarily be recovery media you need, if it has an OEM COA attached to it then you may be able to use an XP Disc / ISO

If this belongs to a student, and you have taken the time to retrieve their files from it, why do you need to fix the OS? That's the job of a PC repair shop, surely (unless you're doing it privately, of course)!
