Another cull of the Christmas card list is called for. The stamp will be more expensive than the card soon.

I just think that if Royal Mail focused on delivering parcels more (like all the others), they wouldn't need to increase the price of stamps. The profit for delivering parcels would compensate the loss on delivering letters.

 

The number of times I've ordered from the internet, there are two consignments shipped to the same warehouse, but delivered by two different drivers? It's no wonder they're losing money.

 

And why is the official logistics supplier for the Olympics an American company? Royal Mail miss all the opportunities to promote themselves big.

It wouldnt matter, a stamp never looses its value. You can still use the old First Class red stamps today.

Just another good reason to get the rest of your family trained on the Internet / email / skype etc

What gets me is their reasoning... No one is posting anything..

 

Text Message = 12p (or free if you have inclusive texts)

Email = Free

Postage Stamp... 60p!!!!

 

So their solution is to increase the price to 5x the cost of a text message?!! That'll have them flocking to the post office for a book of stamps - Not!

Ok, lets put this in perspective a little.

 

What does 60p get you? It allows you to put an envelope in any of 53287 post boxes in the UK. It then gets collected, and transported to its destination, which can be anywhere in 94,526 sq miles of land mass consisting of 22.5million households, and however many businesses that exist, spread over multiple islands within 24-72 hours depending on first class/second class.

 

Seems like a bargain to me to be honest.

err for some reason no matter how often I try to correct that stray quote in the middle of "within" the quote tags keep re-appearing - done it like 6 times now...

I think it's a sign that with increased fuel costs and all other associated costs with the Royal Mail going up, it's no wonder people use mobile phones, e-mail or the internet more in general. Businesses still invoicing customers by post will start (if they haven't already) changing over to e-mail and people will send less Christmas cards and opt for alternatives.

 

I'd much rather every 60p that went to Royal Mail and money spent on a card went to a charity instead. At least they'd spend the money better rather than waste it!

 

I think it's very much a generation thing as a lot of services are now available online, so the need for a Post Office is reduced.

Actually - it wouldn't as I am on Three's All You Can Eat dataplan, so for £15 a month I get:

300 free minutes

3000 free text messages

as much high speed data as I can possibly use in a month! (Even when tethered to my laptop!)

 

So yeah - I'm complaining about the price of a stamp when I can send a heck of a lot more information (audio,video or written)

You could extend that calculation to point out that you could send a single blu-ray disc with all that data on it for a total of... 60p.
