[sccm 2007] software distribution has stopped working

Hoping some of you SCCM chaps can help me with this one. I've had my SCCM 2007 R3 setup working great for a few months. OS deployment and software distribution has been working fine. However all of a sudden software distribution has stopped working. OS deployment works fine although new clients don't appear to get registered in the console correctly as their computer name never gets updated from "unknown".

 

DNS is working fine so I'm not sure where to look next. Any ideas?

Checked if the BITS service is running OK? SCCM running on 2003 or 2008 R2?

 

Is your distro point on the same server as the site server or separated out?

I have tried disabling the Firewall just to make sure but it makes no difference. Thanks for the suggestion though.

BITS service is running ok. SCCM is running on a 2008 R2 VM. All SCCM roles are on the same server.

Sounds certificate related. Are you running in Native or mixed mode?

I'm running mixed mode.

 

Finally found the cause of the issue. An "Install Software" task in my OSD task sequence wasn't exiting properly and was leaving the SCCM client in provisioning mode (AKA not working). This blog post helped me troubleshoot...

 

Solution: After a ConfigMgr 2007 OSD Task Sequence completes, the client may not automatically pull down policy - The Configuration Manager Support Team Blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs

I would recommend you look into switching to Native Mode.. I had similar issues with unknown clients - usually due to multiple client entries in SCCM.

Most of the info is on TechNet -> Certificate Requirements for Native Mode

 

Once in Native Mode, clients will then be controlled via their ConfigMgr Client certificate.
