nLinked Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Is there any such method so we can give teachers the power to reset a student's forgotten password? We get many students "forgetting" them and it's a daily bother. I've seen some paid options. Is there a free way, like a VB program that asks a teacher to enter the student's username, and when they click Reset, it automatically sets their password to "password" and will ask the student to change it on next logon? It should not allow teachers to reset domain admin's passwords though!
mac_shinobi Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 security group to allow teachers to reset passwords ( delegation of control or delegating access rights ) then, you would only delegate access rights so teachers could only reset student passwords and not other teachers or other members of staffs passwords etc --> Password Control Registration is free, downloads and to use is free. 1
strawberry Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 second that, you can run it from a network share as well. then just plonk the shortcut on the teachers desktops. 2

morganw Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 This is the one that I used: Reset Student User Password Free Tool for Schools, Business and Education - Burconix It will run from a share and has some nice options. 1
nLinked Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 This is the one that I used: Reset Student User Password Free Tool for Schools, Business and Education - Burconix It will run from a share and has some nice options. This one looks brilliant! I've tried the Password Control one from Wisesoft but am not sure how to lock down options in the program so teachers don't fiddle with them. But this Burconix one looks very clean, simple, and restrictable. Exactly what we're after. Thanks all!
nLinked Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 We are now using the Burconix one above. Is there any way to log which teacher resets which account?
LinkZ Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I created a custom MMC for ours that is limited to the students OU, then in AD delegate access to reset passwords only to the teachers security group. How to create custom Microsoft Management Consoles (MMC’s) for managing servers has a step by step guide you can base it off, also goes into making it user mode so they cannot add more features to it or move out of the students OU. If you're using Windows 7 they teachers machines will need RSAT installed Download: Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7 with SP1 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details with the active directory option turned on in windows features, or with XP the server administrator tools Download: Windows Server 2003 Administration Tools Pack - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
