Got a HP7900 desktop and I have two items I have in Device manager with exclamation marks in the other devices section, one is 'PCI Serial Port' and the other is Unknown Device. As far as I can tell I have loaded all the drivers from the HP site but dont know what they can be. Any ideas how to identify what they may be, may stand a chance at getting the drivers loaded then?

Right Click > Properties > Details >Press dropdown and choose Hardware ID's and then google the hardware ID's and you should be able to find the driver somewhere.

Interesting that you've posted this. We've got an HP 8000 Elite SFF that has suddenly decided that it's got a PCI Serial Port and an Unknown Device and keep kicking up a fuss for drivers although reinstalling the drivers from the HP site doesn't work. We removed XP Pro and stuck Windows 7 Pro on and so far the problem hasn't returned.

Sorted it in the end by googling the device ID and pc model, ended up it was some Intel Management and Security Status software (from the HP site) for the HD. Once installed, it was as happy as Larry but dont knwo what the software actually does as it seemed to work absoluelty fine without it, just didnt like seeing the yellow exclamation mark there.

I've had similar problems with some HP SFF systems too. Even when I downloaded the right driver package, I had to extract it and specify the driver manually. Running setup didn't install the device.

I also find Windows 7 is pretty good at finding some missing drivers online. Much better than XP ever was.
