Update all software/specified software

Hey Guys

 

Im looking into ways of providing more robust support to several primary schools i currently support.

 

In the last year, mainly due to the invention of netbooks, numbers of clients have exploded in my schools and keeping them all up to date with flash, adobe, java etc etc is becoming quite a chore.

 

I wondered how you guys go about updating all your programs or whatever you need to do in regards to updates for software. I have seen SUMo but that still requires manual interaction to download the update and install it. Being a one man team this sort of thing is starting to take up more and more of my time.

All deployed by group policy. Nice and easy. It also better because all machines are running the same version.

It goes without saying.. but.. TEST TEST TEST before deploy.

Agreed. GPO deployment is the easiest consistent way to do it.

 

Testing is hugely important, especially if you have to make any of your own packages to deploy.

Agree with the testing. I always test myself. I then have a few select pilot users who get the updates early. If nothing is flagged up over this period the update is rolled out.

Before we got SCCM I used to use WPKG | Open Source Software Deployment and Distribution which was awesome.
