Dos_Box Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 (edited) Since it's Friday I thought I'd let you in on a few games I've found over the past week that are totally free. 1. PlaneShift. PlaneShift is a free MMORPG that went 'live in November. Apparently it's still in it's testing phase but looks very much like WoW. And it's free. No subscription or 'premium' services apparently (I'm still downloading the game - torrent for preferance according their site) and will let you all know how it plays next week. It is available for Windows (x86 and x64 clients), Mac and Linux and you can get it and more info here: PlaneShift - A 3D Fantasy MMORPG 2. VDrift, a 3D Racing game with a focus on drifiting. Again, Windows, Mac and Linux are the norm. Get it here: VDrift - Open Source Racing Simulator 3. Command and Conquer Classic. Apparently Virgin released this as a freebie some years back. It was available (apparently) from the main site here: Command & Conquer : Home but I can't find it! A simple Google will lead you to lots of reputable sites to download it from. I've had it for about a year and only played it a couple of times....Maybe it might need a second look?? Actually, I think they call it a "re-evaluation"!!

As for Quake Live, I've been playing Quake games since 1996 so have been on QL since it's beta days, a few years ago now. It's online only but well worth a play if you just want a no holds barred shooting game, team or solo.
CAM Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Open TTD - OpenTTD A classic game for those Transport Tycoon enthusiasts and a nice simple passenger/freight business sim. Cities in Motion is another transport sim but focused only on passenger transport with no freight (but plenty of individual citizens all wanting to go somewhere!). The full client isn't free but they have a freeplay via web version that I will try dig up when I get home.

However, we have a strategy gaming 'enrichment' class on a tuesday which cans can go to. We also don't go complaining too much if they play paintball or something via the network during lunch.

I did the same as you, downloading it and not really getting in to it, so I took it off. Then I went back and went through the tutorials to get the hang of it a bit better, and now I'm quite in to it. It is cartoony, but it's good fun. Over the weekend I tried, for the first time, to get to grips with the flamethrower-wielder, who I'd never liked. Once I mastered it it was a scream and I was (for the first time) the highest scorer on the server. That was quite a buzz. So it's always worth going back and giving these things another go.
