Windows XP Login Screen

SCENARIO:

 

We used to be an RM CC3 network and somehow the old network manager substituted the login screen for a custom design one. We recently changed to become a vanilla network and our network manager has moved on.

 

I was curious whether it is possible to change the standard login screen to one that could hold our logo, moto and maybe a flashier background.

 

Any one got any ideas?

Ok by login screen i assume you mean desktop? if so then you can deploy a standard destop using gpo or you could just replace the default desktop. If you are talking about the screen you see that says press Ctrl+Alt+Del, it think its been on this forum before and basically you can change it but you will be breaking a few rules.

Yeah I mean the Ctrl + Alt + Del one. Do you have a link because as always I have searched before posting and I couldn't find anything.

A search for msgina.dll will return results for what you're looking for, but modifying it is against the MS EULA. RM uses their own GINA DLL for login. Have a look at pGina if you're interested in replacing it.

Is it possible to do this for an image on a network share. Without using messy scripts of packages?

Have you tried just using a UNC path to a share who's permissions allows anonymous read access?

I was under the impression that it would only be an issue if you used the Microsoft / Windows logo. If you use your own graphics it will be fine.

No. You are illegally modifying (reverse engineering) Microsoft's files/intellectual property. See here:

So to change the basic log-on wallpaper i need to modify that reg key... am i able to take the wallpaper off of a UNC path?

You can but it’s better from the local machine as it doesn’t always load over the network. You can make start-up script to copy the wallpaper to the local machine and change It for you.

I haven't played around with the actual logon part but I have got the background looking nice with the school logo and a set of instructions about logging problems etc.
