SwedishChef Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I dont think there is a right or wrong answer here, but I wanted to know peoples choices (any any reasons why, or problems encountered) when installing sims.net on RDS (Remote desktop session host). 1. Did you put the server into install mode, or install from the control panel applet. ie: (change user /install)...or not bother with either ? 2. 2008 R2 is 64 bit so, did you install to C:\Program Files (x86) or just C:\Program Files ? (my install prompts me to install to C:\Program Files I was expecting it to default to C:\Program Files (x86)) 3. Did you use simsinst, or use the application setup files directly? Thanks in advance.
pwaddington Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 1.) I did put the server into install mode and it installed fine 2.) Sims was installed into C:\Program Files (x86) 3:) I used simsinst to install it. The Problems i experienced are with the s:\ drive mappings on the rds server not always mapping. I resolved this by changing the shortcut path to 'pulsar.exe' I also have to manually update the servers when capita releases an update, although this isnt too bad as they dont release them that often and we only have 4 rds servers. 1
DaveCoop Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Just picking up on this, we had a rds server installed sims standard way just as you would a normal PC worked fine until our cert ended and me being tottally stupid went for a cheaper one tottally killed the rds server so as were virtual just deleted the server and started again i got it all up and running fine until i installed the sims infrastructure now the rd gateway comes up with an internal server error 500 any ideas??
matt40k Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 1.) Always put to install mode, install, then put back to execute mode when done. SOLUS3 does this for you. 2.) If it's putting it in c:\program files\... by default on a new install, are you using SIMSINST? If so, you've got the old version 3.) Use SIMSINST or SOLUS3 @DaveCoop - would be better to post a new topic. Anyway, did you set it to install mode whilst (and only while) you installed sims infrastructure, what version did you install?
