If you want to use the group policy preferences section on your xp clients you will. If you are not thinking of using them (I would seriously consider it for printer deployment) then don't bother. If you move to win7 and 2008r2 you will have no need for it as it's included by default.

If you're on XP put it on, makes life a lot easier for printer deployment as mentioned and bits and pieces like registry keys that you'd usually do by script
