Hi

We have 2 internet connections and 2 routers.

Our desktops are all connected to router 1 and all our phones are connected to router 2 (it's a voip system so needed it's own internet connection)

The problem is that the phone software that runs on the dekstops can't see the phone system as it is connected to the other router.

How do I get around this?

We need a little more info.

Is it the same physical network, or an entirely separate network.

I'm assuming you're using a separate IP range for the VIOP stuff, is it also in a separate vLan?

Do you have a decent core switch that supports routing?

It is all in one building.

All the desktops are connected to an unmaged switch No1 which then connects to a Draytek 2820 router No1. All desktops are set to DHCP using the IP range 192.168.1.x

All the phones and the phone server are connected to unmanaged switch No2 which then connectes to Draytek router No2. All phones are seto to DHCP and use the same IP range 192.168.1.x.

It worked fine like this for our needs apart from the issue with the phone dekstop software.

I'd stick an extra network card into the phone server if it hasn't already got 2 ports and change the IP addressing on one of the networks - having them both the same isn't going to work when you want to route packets between the two no matter what.

Thanks for all the replies but this sounds like the easiest option.

So I would change Draytek 1 to give out IPs from 192.168.1.1 - .100 and Draytek 2 from .101 onwards?

I would do it 192.168.1.xxx and 192.168.2.xxx

The network addresses need to be different, 192.168.1.1 to .254 would be on the same network logical presuming you are using a 255.255.255.0 subnet mask.

you will need to have one on 192.168.1.x and the other on 192.168.2.x unless you're going to work out the correct subnet masks etc

When I use internet on the pc which network card will it use?

That depends on where you define the default route / gateway

in windows you can usually find this out via ipconfig /all or route PRINT (your looking for network destination 0.0.0.0)
