Already got it on a partition on my laptop, it works quite nicely. Google apps, mail, internet, it just works perfectly for me

Am I missing something? That's the announcement from 2010 about the Google Chrome browser getting an MSI installer...

It is a link (not a recent one, I'll grant you!) about Chrome having ADM templates so it can be centrally managed, and it installing to %ProgramFiles% not the user profile, as Chrome insists on doing. Just wondering if anyone had installed it or not, as I'm facing increasing heat for our use of IE.

I've had a look at deploying Chrome in the past even with the ADM's there's still too much freedom to access options menu because there's no way to disable the wrench menu.

As soon as Google get an option in to disable the wrench I'll probably test deploy it and see how it goes.

I have this deployed, along with Frontmotion Firefox. All students & staff have access to it and I highly publicised it so that they are aware they can use whatever they want. If they request it I can put them in a security group that sets whatever they prefer to be their default browser.

 

All are locked down as much as I have IE locked down. If Safari & Opera had adm support I'd deploy them as well

I put out Chrome at my last school, no issues at all with it.

We have it installed for all staff here, with ADMs in place and it works great. It is basically our default browser.

 

Installation for students is going to happen when we do our Windows 7 migration.

Yup, I have to admit I much prefer it over IE. I'd have it as our default if I could get away with it, but I know a lot of educational software (at least, legacy stuff) is only tested against IE.

 

I'm very much in favour of giving the students/staff a choice tho. I always *hated* being forced to use IE6 back when I was in school.

We are testing Chrome at the minute in a couple of ICT suites. We were reluctant at first however we now have it locked down fairly tight. Users can still get into the options however a lot of the choices are greyed out so they can't do anything with them. Have to say, we needed help with a couple of settings and the support I found at the chromium website was superb. The test seems to be going quite well so in a couple of weeks it could be rolled out as an additional browser for student use.
