Hi Gang,

Looking at updating these and just wondered what every has & hoping you could post a screenshot of what you have. Got quite a few ideas for a staff one but I'm struggling with what to put on a student one if I'm honest.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

from top to bottom

a banner at the top which says which week of the time table it is A or B

the nav bar consists of useful links such as a google search bar, links to vle, links to the school site, links to a form allows users to send message to networksupport about computer / software issues

then beneath is a simple noticeboard which teachers can post messages to which includes a link that allows students to reply to the OP using a form that then emails the teacher

This was asked about a year ago in this thread.

I posted our intranet in there and it hasn't changed since then so I won't bother reposting it, though you should get some inspiration from that.

I opted for a very simple, but visually appealing approach (I wanted a "links wheel" but didn't know how to make a round thing, so just put the link boxes around the edge of a central search box)!

From someone who uses many intranet sites for work keep it plain and simple to use but looking modern. Don't overcrowd and make sure its kept up to date.

Make sure people use it in the end - ask the staff what they want, we found having a little traffic light system re system status was a big help for them to save ringing out helpdesk.

Just to mention we have now moved to only having the noticeboard for announcements - no longer do we get round robin emails sent to all staff!

I got a G+T ICT Student to do our Intranet page. It is plain and simple with the school details, Fronter link on the front page and down the side a few websites.

Keep it modern, keep it simple and it doesnt have to be updated regularly as we only use it as a holding page.

Network Admin intranet page:

Collapsible tab that pulls in open helpdesk tickets from the helpdesk database

Staff intranet page:

Collapsible tab pulling in that specific users open helpdesk tickets. Collapsible tab linking to online guides for Office 2010 vs 2003. Links to online helpdesk and online booking system

Student intranet page:

Collapsible tab with Office 2010 guides again. Two collapsible tabs pulling in data from XiBO normal and urgent notice feeds

All get the Google search box which takes focus when the page is loaded. Primary students get an intranet page with only the Google search box.

Pages are loaded based on AD group membership and private to that group; staff cannot access student intranet page and student cannot access staff intranet page, even browsing directly to staff.php / student.php.

@MatthewL any chance of a screenshot?

All our traffic light system is 3 system status balls when hovered over it hows what is not working etc and if you click it links to the main netstat page. I am not in the office much this week so will try and screen print when I can. Keep nagging me if I dont.
