Hello everyone,

I would like to know if there is a place to get a documention on using SIMS program, currently the school i'm in has it and i will be interested in knowing and how to use it.

thanks

If your school has it then they should have all the documentation/training they require. Mind you, it will only be available to those who have been authorised to use/access SIMS.

The documentation is built into SIMS. Once you've logged in, click on the documentation link. If you don't have access you need to speak to your SIMS Manager or IT Department.

I would try and limit what you want to know, SIMS is very vast and it's impossible to learn it all.

I'll second that one! And there ain't that many that know more about the actual software, as applied to a normal secondary school, than I do! (Big 'eaded bugga!)

It's a good job I have a colleague who is equally adept on the Technical side tho'!

...all during the Summer holidays... whilst doing 30 new installs... and updating all the documentation... and training the new staff... and not forgetting all those lovely calls that start "Last year we could..." and whatever you do, don't forget to update your calls, timesheets and other paper work the management has created for you to fill in, duplicate only for them A. not to use because they've got a new job and have moved on and the new manager has a new idea. B. tell you it's wrong because the final figure doesn't match what they wanted or C. Change it mid way...

Not that that's ever happened before...

You import them through Routines > Data in > Assessment then it is in the AMPA folder then the one relating to your secondary/primary status in the Assessment Pupil Progrss.

if you need anything else just ask :-)

The documentation? Think you've got the wrong end of the stick...

As handy as it is, Capita watch this forum and I don't think they will be best pleased at it being given out. ;)

Oh noes!! I can use Progress Grids.... in my licensed SIMS database

If someone would like to publish Serco's guide that would be really interesting! :)

Now, now, don't make use give you red squares.

the capita guide is freely available under the documentation button in SIMS just posting the PDF the help people searching

True, but we do have to be careful as it's only freely available to an authenticated user at a SIMS school. Nothing wrong with that doc, but we need to be aware of posting technical details, as we do get the occasional student trying to social engineer key files / info from here. Be A Lert ;)

I don't have access to SIMS, but i have access to the PCs which have SIMS software installed on them as a (normal user), this is because these PCs are connected to the councils domain, however i can get hold of password for the SIMS ;)

I wouldn't be accessing a school's MIS that I wasn't authorised to do so, that's highly illegal. I certainly wouldn't be admitting to doing it in an open forum either!

No,

Its not illegal, i'm the technician of the school!

Many technicians do not have access to SIMS. For very good reason. You don't necessarily need it, you shouldn't necessarily have it.... we don't know.

If you should or could have access legitimately, then signing up with Capita SupportNet or accessing training manuals is simple. Your LA should be able to help with all this.

No one here knows who you are, therefore we could be helping someone gain access to Pupil data... no one is going to do that. Working for an LA myself, we are extremely careful what documentation we allow someone to have access to, but never stand in the way of those that need it. Talk to your LA and/or SIMS System Manager.

It was that first quote there that made me respond the way I did - made it sound like you were going to try to access pupil data that you shouldn't have access to to.

@creese explains why people are reluctant to help people gain access to SIMS

In the dim and distant past I used to print out every SIMS Handbook that was updated with a SIMS Upgrade.

Can you imagine trying to do that now! :)

And then considering uploading them all to this thread one by one? ;)
