problem mapping printers

Hi All.

 

I have a printer server called printserver (10.0.0.15) with all the school printers, normally we used login scripts to map the printers to the clients. Basically we used the ip address of the server followed by the name of the printer.

 

\\10.0.0.15\printer1

 

The problem is that after something (i don't know what) was changed in the dhcp server (placed in this same serveR) the only way I have to connect the printers to the clients is by using the hostname instead of the ip:

 

\\printserver\printer1

 

when I try to use the old method I get this error:

 

 

Please anyone knows how to solve this? otherwise I'm going to have to change all the clients login scripts including staff laptops.....

Has the IP of the printer changed? Is it a reserved IP?

Looks like the IP of the print server has changed.

 

Find out the print servers IP by opening a command prompt and ping printserver

 

Then find out if anything is using the printserver IP: ping -a 10.0.0.15

 

If you don't want to change the script, you need to change the print servers IP back. Easiest way as witch said would be to add a reservation in your DHCP server. (you'll need the MAC address to do this, which you'll be able to find in the DHCP server)

Hi, no, the ips are the same and it's not a reserved ip is just out of the range of the scope. I have restarted the server and it's working again... sooooo weird...
