No, that is how Americans say it. Universities have degrees in Mathematics. It is shortened to Maths, not Math over here.

only because it is -> it's. mathematics -> math's - i was taught that removing letter(s) meant putting a apostrophe in it's place? (was my English teacher wrong?)

 

But you are removing more then one letter, so does that mean you need more apostrophes ??

 

Also Maths covers more then just one type of Math from percentages / fractions / decimals to algebra, pi, calculating areas of different shapes i.e. circles / squares , calculating volume of shapes i.e. fish tank when you have the measurements, list goes on ......

Funny you should mention that - I've had to dig up my old geometry memory recently to try and see if I can approximate a spaceship in eliptic earth orbit using Scratch

To be fair I have used pythagoras in the real world (to code a little mobile web app that uses geolocation to find the nearest place from a database that has a load of places and their co-ordinates in) but again, most average punters aren't programming!
