Oaktech Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 One of members of staff has liquid damaged her iphone 4. It switches on, and attempts to PC connect, but cannot be backed up at present as it is locked with a passcode that we are unable to enter as the screen is dead. Does anyone out there know any way of getting round this, or is it a case of her having to spend 3 hours in the apple shop, or having to spend £60-£120 to get a screen/liquid repair, then a backup, then a new phone! It's not officially our problem, but there are a few pints in it for the department (she manages a pub in her spare time!) so I want to do my best for her!
DAZZD88 Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Only thing you can really do is give it a while sitting in a warm dry place and hope that there's still a bit water in it that needs drying out.

Oaktech Posted December 2, 2011 Author Posted December 2, 2011 sadly not... I think this only extracts info from a backup to restore to a phone, rather than from a phone to create a backup...

I stripped it down and cleaned all the furry connections and the backlight and touchscreen digitizer came back to life. She remembered her pin code at about 3am and text it to me! I found, scaled to size and printed out screen shots of all the steps requiring interaction with the phone to achieve a backup and sync so i could enter info blind, and eventually i got the unit to sync all the contacts and photos to windows (out of i tunes!) so i could give her a dvd with the photos and a spreadsheet and print out with her contacts on it. She was so happy, she came over all innapropriate! Job done. bottle of wine and a free meal at her pub for me and the missus!
