Hi Everyone

I've been asked by one of the head's at a school I visit to look into something. The School is having a new Nursery Built and there are quite keen to do something different been looking at the smart table but having never seen any before I am unsure how practical this would be. Just wondering if any other schools out their have done anything similar instead of just going with the normal smart board PC setup.

I think it would be well worth looking at something like the smart board. Children at that age use there hands (and mouths) to discover things, they do not want to sit and look at a big board.

I would hang fire till BETT and see what is new there for that age group.

I saw two tables that utilize the Epson Interactive Projector at a local school - they seemed to like them. Although the pens could be quite heavy for Nursery Kids.

Honestly, though, doing something for the sake of being different just sounds expensive and misguided. It has to be because there is a need for it in teaching, otherwise it won't get used except when guests are being walked round. Smartboards might be in every primary now, but that's because they're brilliant for KS1 & 2 kids, and should be in every primary.

Although those tilting plasma screens look awesome

Those tilting screens look great for a young audience, again buying tech for the same of saying you have it does seem abit of a waste and it soon becomes the norm in a school enviroment I think. IWBs are not used as much as they used to be, sure they are in all classrooms but they dont get used to any advantage over a keyboard and mouse and the kids who once impressed by the tech onw couldn't care less.

What about a motorised smart board one primary school I go into has one, which enables the teacher to lower the smart board down to the floor so the kid can use it..

I would agree with the earleir post about waiting for BETT as many of the big AV companies introduce their new products there, and given the huge interst in 'touch' now I wouldn't be surprised if Smart, Promethean and the projector/display manufacturers all have some very nice new kit to show off.

I think there is a thread somewhere where we designed one from an Ikea table.

EDIT: Here it ishttp://www.edugeek.net/forums/general-chat/48713-lackrack-ikea-server-racks-living-room-datacenters-6.html
