Proxy issue

Hi,

Small problem but a pain in the,

Issue is when users log on and try and access the tinterweb no joy,

Problem is site wide but an odd few machines,

enable proxy is not checked, it should be as it is through group policy,

installed firefox to test entered settings no problem.

So is it a problem with internet explorer?

 

The same thing on fresh imaged machines! but not all?

 

Everything is ok as administrator until user logs on then it kicks out setting to enable proxy.

 

Help much appreciated.

We had this a bit back twice and traced it to 3 different things.

First time

1) We had not updated the adm on the server and had upgraded the version of ie we were using and some machines did not like it.

 

2) During the ie upgrade some of them did not upgrade 100% and a reinstall of ie fixed it.

Second time

3) We had a currupt policy on the server we created it again and unlinked the old policy and and linked the new one.

Update on problem, this situation mentioned above seems to be related to profiles,as it is not a particular user account or specific machine , random user1 logs on to machineA and no internet using internet explorer(firefox fine as long as proxy settings are entered) random user2 logons to machineA internet ok using internet explorer,random user1 logs on to machineB and internet explorer ok ,random user2 logons to machineB and internet explorer cant connect to internet.

Arrggghhh!! Proxy settings tab!!!!

If you think it is a profile issue then why not delete the local profiles off a machine, and delete some user profiles and have a go and see whether they can connect? You will have to make sure noone else is using a machine or logging on as these users though in case some profiles are copied back up to the server

If it works you can delete all local profiles off the machines - a pain but the Win7 version of delprof works fairly well - although you have to go and delete the odd one - and also delete user profiles and let them recreate.

What OS are you using? We had this on XP, but it appears to work fine under Windows 7

Did you delete the LOCAL profiles too?

Yes deleted those too.

i have an issue like this gpo setting proxy settings for staff and pupils applied to windows xp perfectly but does not apply to windows 7

 

had to add another gpo and apply it again to windows 7 machines ou ( dont know why it did not pass the settings through)

Created new user ,new profile,same problem.

Set the proxy using GPP instead. Not a fix really but your users won't know the difference.

 

use GPresult (HTML), and look at event logs to see whats happening.

I wouldn't recommend you use GPP for deploying IE8 or IE9 settings, it's full of bugs and has caused me many problems.

 

Set the proxy settings via GPO, but also import registry settings using GPP if policies are failing to apply.
