wifi audio system

I'm looking to replace our old CD player in the front room. I'm not actually after a cd player now as all our CDs are on a NAS so I'm after some kind of audio centre that can play music over the network, Bluetooth or an ipod dock, and a great sound. Would be good if it could play internet radio too. Never looked for something like this before so an suggestions would be good.

There's really two choices here: Squeezebox, or wrong.

 

I've 2, including a pre-logitech v1 from ~10 years ago which is still getting use. Few smoothie people have em, all seem happy. Rich the local audiophile has a couple, Lawrence has patched his to have a larger clock to cope with duff eyesight, Pete is running the server off a NAS...

The Sonos stuff is amazing, but eye wateringly expensive, Squeezbox is the next best. Richer Sound are quite good for this stuff and you can have a play with it all.

if you're spending that much money, then you are in Sonos territory for either a Play:3 or if you already have speakers and an amp then the Connect. I really would recommend going and having a listen and play with both the Squeezebox and the Sonos, both are great but slightly different.

Looks like half a "duo" - logitech did a squeezebox for a while where all the display etc. was on the remote, and the bit that made the noise was "headless".

 

Still perfectly useable I would have thought (never had a duo) - if you are willing to control what you listen to from the server, either via web interface, or droid/iphone app.

I have my music repository on my NAS's and it would be nice to be able to play them through the Bose system. I did think of making a 'myth ubuntu box up but its not really what I am after. The NAS's have media servers built in and can be seen by itunes etc already,Alan

As my my missus will (most likely) be using it more then I am, an interface on the system is defiantly a must. She does have an iPhone 4 but she prefers a tangible interface on a device. Trying to get her to use the XBMC remote for my media centre was a mission and no mistake!
