wesleyw Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Currently we are following these guidelines for our coursework: Work produced over several sessions must be collected at the end of each session and stored securely Work produced electronically must be saved securely so it cannot be amended between sessions (or memory sticks collected) However our solution isn't particularly elegant I would like to ask what have you done in a similar vein? Preferably someway that doesn't allow them to bend the rules easily as theoretically our way if they where devious enough they might be able to? Wes

GrumbleDook Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Ah, you are talking about the famed Controlled Assessment. There are a couple of threads on here about controlled assessment ranging from http://www.edugeek.net/forums/blue-skies/71548-head-ofqaul-asks-why-arent-students-using-computers-exams.html to http://www.edugeek.net/forums/general-chat/45189-going-meet-man-your-behalf.html ... but the latter of these threads also has a link to an excellent article Using Windows 7 and UMRA for Controlled Assessment » SharePointEduTech It is also worth identifying with the exam board what they can and can't have access to whilst working electronically ... can they have a dictionary? Thesaurus? Spell Check? Internet access? it will vary from board to board, subject to subject and even unit to unit. 1
wesleyw Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 Has anyone setup something using their VLE to achieve this at all? Still looking into sorting this out in a more appropriate way and this might be the best solution. Wes
Achandler Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Our ICT lessons are "Controlled" to an extent, the pupils login and get a different drive to their normal home drive during ther ICT periods. Meaning they can only access the work when they are meant to/ allowed to. This is achieved using a GPO that affects members of certains groups, this GPO has a variety of settings in and a script that runs and originated from someone elses post here. The students (in preset class groups) are then added and removed from the corresponding groups via a scheduled task at the correct times. Its like a controlled assessment but the light version. 1
sonofsanta Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I've cobbled together an Excel spreadsheet to generate a new usernames for each student for each subject as a CSV and import that into AD. We just enable/disable the accounts around the required lessons, or delegate rights to the teacher to do the same, then give the teacher a shortcut into the folder so they can print out the work at their convenience. Works for us. Although the easiest answer, annoyingly, is "give them a sheet of paper and a biro and collect at the end of each lesson." No danger of spell checkers and online resources then...
reggiep Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Would there be a way to give a teacher the power to password protect a folder in a shared area with some software? I did look at Grumbledook's links above, thanks grumbledook, but the last suggestion "Using Windows 7 and UMRA for Controlled Assessment » SharePointEduTech" would cost our school, with 780 students, £3000 for the software!
