I've had a member of SMT coming to me saying that their computer keeps rebooting all the time.

This is the same SMT member that asked for their computer to be upgraded to Windows 7 not too long ago...

I've not actually seen it happen, but I'm assured that it happens...

There's nothing in the Event Logs that indicates a problem, so I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem..?

I will do @jamesfed

It's described as the monitor flickers out and then back on again with the computer shutting down which is something I've never come across before...

And yes before it's asked all cables are plugged in properly...

is it an RM machine? we've had problems with them where they have been overclocked at the factory and at an indeterminate point in the future start to fail in the way you described as stuff gets tired. we've had RM out about 15 times to different machines to replace MBs and PSUs.

Do you get a memory dump?

Is the machine failing to send a device to sleep and then falling over?

We had an issue where Win 7 was trying to sleep to save power and was having issues sending the sata-connected optical drive to sleep. After multiple retries it would eventually reboot. The permanent fix was a BIOS upgrade. We found this by digging through the memory dumps using WinDbg.
