I currently have a KMS server setup running Office 2010, this is working fine. On the same server I have setup the KMS key using slmgr.vbs /ipk . What I understand: because I have installed KMS on the server, this can be used for server 2008 and win 7 using the KMS server key only?

From a win 7 client machine after running slmgr.vbs -ato I get the following message code: 0xC004F074. On the Microsoft site it said a need a download to extend KMS, I attempted to install on my KMS server, it said it was not required.

When I run slmgr.vbs /dli on the KMS server the following is reported:

current count 2

port:1688

DNS enabled

total requests received: 55

I have not put all the stats in, but everything seems normal.

Can someone help

have you reached the minimun number required for activation to begin? i think win 7 is 5

if your run slmgr.vbs /dlv does it show you all the products it will register for you?

slmgr.vbs /dlv - there is a lot of text so i will just put what I think may be relevant:

description: windows operating system - windows server - volume_KMS_R2_B channel

partial product key:CJG9K

liences status: licensed

remaining windows rearm count: 3

KMS is enabled on this machine

current count: 2

port:1688

DNS enabled

KMS cumulative requests recieved from clients:

total requests recieved: 55

failed:0

requests with license status unlicensed:0

requests with license status licensed:0

requests with license status initial grace period: 40

requests with license status notification:15

I hope this makes sense. I thought it was 5 for server and 25 for win 7

your right it is 25 for win 7

i have sepeare kms keys for win 7 and server 2008r2, not used them yet though, sily question have you put your win 7 key on your kms server or are you trying to activate a server 2008r2 machine?

I thought I read somewhere that if you use server 2008 r2, only one key is required which will activate both server and win 7 and I used the server KMS key using the following cmd: slmgr.vbs /ipk

I'am trying to activate win 7 machines

First time I have posted a thread and waht a great response :)

You are correct that the 2008 R2 KMS key will activate 2008 R2 and windows 7, so there is no need to put the windows 7 key in too.

How many Windows 7 clients do you have? When I first put in KMS last year, it took a few days for them all to activate themselves.

id put the win7 key in personally, but your right, acording to documentation on the miscosft site it should activate, but there is somethin about deploying 2008r2 aswell, not sure if thats just it has to be installed on your servers or that it needs to be activated though kms im not sure.

For activation the client count is 25, what is the count for. i.e. activation requests or how many win 7 clients I have on the network.

To answer your question I have approx 50 - 60 clients, but these are all laptops and already activated using the MAK key.

If you don't have the 25 clients available to activate, then it will just keep erroring at you. As your laptops have already been activated via MAK, they won't be included in the KMS count, but you can switch them using the Volume Activation Management Tool.

Also means your laptops have to be used regularly on the network otherwise they get deactivated ;)

Did you sysprep the image? We had to run “slmgr –rearm” I think is the command on the clients after 25 they will activate. Spent Monday afternoon to work that one out. Sounds like the unique number has been assigned before the image was taken so the server sees them all as 1 client. Because 1 client can count for more than one request. It does also take a while between 20 – 30mins for it to take effect.

Also I think the server key can be used for win 7 if it’s a 2008R2 Server, I think you need the win 7 key for 2008 server

Thanks to everyone that replied, still not working, but I think it is the 'current count' on the KMS server I need to wait for it to get to 25, I thought it was the 'total requests received' which is currently at 46.

current count: 8

'total requests received: 46

Cheers Techies some good responses
