cpjitservices Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Anybody know of any enterprise software that will update programs like Adobe Reader automatically and Firefox etc etc ?? We get updates a lot for adobe (obviously) but short of going around and installing all the updates on the machines we have no central management for this type of update - it's also software like Firefox and Chrome which we could do with updating! Thanks
Michael Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 There are MSIs for Adobe Reader, Flash, Shockwave and Chrome. Your only option for Firefox is to create your own MSI or look at Frontmotion. Hope this helps! 1
sparkeh Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 (edited) If you run WSUS then you might want to look at Local Update Publisher Local Update Publisher can distribute any MSI, MSP or EXE and is successfully being used to distribute updates for common programs such as Adobe Reader, Flash, Firefox and Java. Even more complex installs such as Microsoft Hotfixes and Symantec Endpoint Protection have been successfully distributed via Local Update Publisher. edit: Just notice you specified 'enterprise' software. Well personally I have SCCM coupled with SCUP to do all these kind of updates, bit extreme just for updating but its a very good bit of kit all in all. Edited September 27, 2011 by sparkeh 1
mac_shinobi Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 not sure how much this helps but what about using Secure PDF Reader Fox It PDF Reader instead of adobe reader ? 1
cpjitservices Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 The kind of thing I am looking for is something which will scan my entire network endpoints and detect which programs need updating IE Firefox,Chrome,Adobe Reader X and any other program we have on the workstations, and A simple click to update and it pulls down all the updates and updates all of the workstations, the problem with the MSI's are that I'd have to get MSi's for each bit of software we use and to also download it every time there is an update - does anyone know of any software that will do this automatically ? Because of the nature of the business we need just about everything centralized and this is one thing we'd like centralized. I tried Shavlik IT yesterday and I wasnt that impressed when it only picked up 4 of my 15 machines that where turned on. Thanks everyone!
cpjitservices Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 yeah we use it for installing stuff but not sure if it has central update capabilities ? and it's not free so the boss don't like it lol
jtotheb Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Anybody know of any enterprise software that will update programs like Adobe Reader automatically and Firefox etc etc ?? EminentWare :: Cost-effective Update and Configuration Management WSUS bolt-on for 3rd party patching. I've never used it myself, but had seen it advertised. 1
