dezt Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Someone at our place wanted an all singing and all dancing PC to run SIMS Discover on, so got a 64bit version of Windows 7 on an i3 PC, with 4gb of ram. They are now complaining that they can't access NOVA T4, is it possible to sort this out for them or should I just tell them we should be using NOVA T6?
riffleman Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Nova T4 is a 16bit app. Windows 7 x64 will not support 16bit apps. Only options are to move to T6 or using Windows 7 x86. 1
MrEprise Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 (edited) There are also 2 other options, these being TS RemoteApp (using a 32-bit Terminal Server) or Windows XP Mode which will emulate 16-bit applications. Edited September 25, 2011 by MrEprise 1
riffleman Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 XP Mode didn't work when I tried it, and it was too confusing for the end user. Didn't try Remote App, but having had difficulties with using it for SIMS, I didnt get far enough to run Nova through it.
Geoff Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 (edited) Two options spring to mind. VMware player running XP on a virtual machine or run it on a terminal server. Anyway, doesn't Nova T6 do everything T4 does by now? Edited September 25, 2011 by Geoff 1

dobsonl Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Isn't T4 end of life now and no longer supported on the capita roadmap?
bossman Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Isn't T4 end of life now and no longer supported on the capita roadmap? Sure is T4 is no longer usable and is not accessible in the latest summer release as my end users keep complaining about printing the timetable off. 1
Sivadam Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Sure is T4 is no longer usable and is not accessible in the latest summer release as my end users keep complaining about printing the timetable off. NT4 is still available and still usable for Reporting purposes only. It is still supported for those reports that are still not in NT6 or in SIMS. Even some of those that have been built into SIMS still do not have the same functionality as in NT4! I am also assured that it does still work in Windows7 via Windows XP Mode! Though I have had no reason to use it yet via this platform! 1

Just logged in to Sims and your right on both accounts.........my bad There is only me and the data manager that have access to it though as we thought it only right that the other end users should get used to Sims without T4.

Not often I ain't right about SIMS/NT functionality (if ever!). I'm also modest about it!!!! You do right in limiting it. It is basically a Timetable program. Giving access to more than one person often leads to NT4 locking up and the Timetabler having to reset the locks. Now that most of the general reports are in SIMS (despite the lack of some of the functionality!) only the Timetabler really needs to run the NT4 Reporting! 1
dezt Posted September 26, 2011 Author Posted September 26, 2011 Thanks everyone, i'll look at the posibility of using either XPMode or remote apps.
