How much paper?

Although I am employed as an ICT Technician, I do a fair amount of photocopying / document binding as required by other departments...

 

Today we have went through approx 25/30 reams of paper between photocopiers within the office and printers within the classrooms.... (excluding the admin office) this strikes me as being rather high for a term day!

 

Out of interest, how does this compare to the amount of printouts / photocopying in your respective schools?

I've never relly thought about how much paper we use. Although, if I was to fill the tray(s) of every printer it would probably take at least 30 reams - that's before photocopiers!

 

Maybe it's just a coincidence and all the printers ran out of paper at the same time

I've recently started a drive towards saving paper..all staff bulletins, newsletter, memos are now online, and i'm starting to get the teachers to get work handed in digitally.

 

so hopefully we're not using that much

We set up a work post box for the kids to drag the work in to the teachers folders. that way the work can be checked and be printed off when its finished. both the staff and kids love it. I was told that the Middlesbrough accademy spend £40k a year on both paper and printer tonner/drum units etc.

I only fill a couple of our printers but overall I would say we probably get through about 5 reams a day.

This time of year is generally busy for both paper and toner with coursework deadlines around the corner. 25 / 30 reams a day sounds about right to me. I think our Reprographics guy orders around 40 boxes every 2 weeks for his photocopiers.

We have a reprographics person specifically for that who lives among a suite of photocopiers. The paper and the labour is nothing to do with us, we just make sure the computers work 'guv.

We deal only with the printers, the photocopiers get done by Reprographics. We tend to get through 2-3 reams on an average day. However for a period of about two months just before Easter we ran out of paper completely and after the initial moans, it was surpising how quiet it went.

 

We have a severe problem of staff not only wanting all work printed out, but them also getting multiple drafts of it printed out. Most of it is still shockingly bad anyway, but i'll resist another one of my whinges about spelling and grammar...

Who knows how much paper we get through, but we change on average about 2 or 3 toners per day in our school!

 

Trying to cut down on paper useage, our newsletter is now published on the intranet, as are various staff notices and information. Trying to get them to consider publishing the staff handbook exclusively on CD-ROM and the intranet next year, with a printed copy available in the staffroom. This will save a small fortune in time and paper!

How big is your school maniac??? 2 - 3 toners a day! At Lancaster Uni, ISS (the tech people) only replaced around 5 toners a day and they got through 200 reams a week on those particular printers!

@maniac: You certainly want to revise the model of printer being used if you get through that much toner. You will save a heap of cash by putting in a bigger printer with a lower cost per page.
