and to answer my own question, you can, but make sure you let it change your nic settings itself and not set them before hand or it gets unhappy ;)

Plain and simple answer is yes - it will work when you create the new virtual network tick the box that says 'share with computer management' (can't remember the precice text).

There are reasons not to namely dedicating a NIC will ensure that your VMs get the full potential of any bandwith provided.

Sorry, what did you mean to say there?

on your vm there are 2 types of network card you can use a legacy network adapter or a network adapter. Legacy allows wds/ris boot but isnt a good candidate to share with the host os's network card
