problem with folder redirection server 2008 r2 and desktops are w7

Hi, we are having weird problem with setup on the title.

We don't have roaming profiles but recently set folder redirection via group policy so that user’s documents folder points to \\server\users\username (also H:\ mapped to this path)

 

Problem is, if a new user logs in to a machine that they have never logged in before, they logon to temporary profile with windows classic theme and customisation doesn't apply. user doesn’t get internet explorer 9 short cut to pinned their task bar and/or their programs list.

 

I know removed folder redirection policy and used below script to setup Documents folder on logon

Have you checked the event viewer on the machines in question to see what errors are being thrown up? Logging in with temporary profiles is often down to a permissions issue somewhere so the event log might shed some light on it for you.

I am also receiving the same problem.

 

Users can logon and get their correct profile and folder redirection and other times they are issued with temporary profiles and local folders and rights.

 

Can anyone shed any light on this?

I'd go with the same suggestion - check the event log after a failed login, and see what error messages are coming up. I had a similar problem here with respect to folder redirection occassionally failing, and found a registry file which solved the problem for me. I've now set my login script to automatically import the reg file to make sure the problem doesn't come back.

I've checked my event logs and all my folder reditections are fine.

 

I only get one error and thats regarding Windows Mail.

 

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

We had simmilar issue only for our staff accounts. For some when logging in they got temp profiles and a black screen.

 

Deleted profile.v2 in their home drives and any local profiles stored and voila issue solved. Not sure if that will help any for u,.

I found registry file which solved the problem for me. I've now set my login script to automatically import the reg file to make sure the problem doesn't come back.

Just trawling the forums for info on my inconsistent profile loading (some PCs refuse to load correctly - some need 2 goes at it - majority are fine and its not a permissions or profile specific thing) and spotted the above. Could you post any more info re: the reg file, and if you're feeling really magnanamous, the line in the logon script

Could it be this one - this fixes Windows 7 folder redirection (when you look in the event logs, all folder redirection fails when a user logs on). This was apparently caused by a KB. I've been having issues with this recently, so rolled this out via a startup script.

Nope. That was an obscure blog find. I had used this before 18 months ago, and thought it wouldn't reoccur, but it happens with my brand new Windows 7 installs. Thanks all. Seems to have helped a lot - users don't seem to get the problem where it fails to connect to their redirected My Docs. We are still seeing the failure to redirect Start Menu and Desktop occasionally. Logging off and on a second time works okay though.
