speckytecky Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 We have a Ricoh photocopier included amongst our printers listed as a default. Annoyingly on Windows 7 Clients the boot up from cold hangs until the driver install is allowed and despite a box being ticked to not display again it happens every time. Anyone else have a similar Windows 7 issue and if so have you managed to sort it?
SYNACK Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 What Ricoh printer driver are you using, they are wildly variable. Some are great and others are complete poo. Have you tried the PLC/PS/Universal one if they are avalible for your printer and swapped between them. Also I am assuming the latest drivers. 1
mac_shinobi Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 PCL 5 is the one I used to suggest but think they are or were working on combining the RPCS and PCL 5 drivers together. Not sure how they got on with that. Isn't there a GPO that determines if users are allowed to install non digitally signed drivers or something like that or was that an XP GPO I am thinking of ? I do know that Ricoh drivers are not digitally signed so wondering if that is apart of the issue ??
Arthur Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 If you are using the 64-bit version of Windows 7 then non digitally signed drivers aren't allowed.

SYNACK Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Yea, try the PLC5 or PS ones. They are much more cut down and stable, although Ricoh seemed to be very prowd of their proprietary driver it was so horrible I switched to the others and told their techs about the deficiencies.

PS will only work if the PS option has been purchased for said copier as they do not come with PS as default so thus leaving RPCS or PCL ( 5 or 6 ) , 6 is buggy hence why I suggested 5 ( 5c or 5e ). As per synack RPCS isn't brilliant but it is Ricohs own print driver.
Achandler Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Our Ricoh machines work fine. We use GPP to push out the connections, and when a machine is connecting to a Ricoh photocopier it adds a good 20 seconds to the login time (annoying but liveable). I assume you are connecting via print server?
