Annoying Error Message

Hi all,

 

I have an Acer Aspire 3050WXMI laptop which I purchased a couple of months ago. Recently I have been getting this annoying error message appearing when it loads into Windows Media Centre (my OS). Managed to find out what "RTHDCPL" file is (it happens to be for Realtek High Definition Audio). So I removed the Realtek software using Add/Remove programs and re-installed it. However, I still keep getting the blasted error when my laptop boots into windows.

 

Did another search for the HHCTRL file that is mentioned in the error and tried to delete that (it appears to be just an Active X control), but it just keeps coming back, after every time I delete it. The only other thing I can think of is to disable the RTHDCPL file from loading when the machine boots, using regedit and browsing to the Run folder within the registry.

 

Oh, this oddly enough appears to be happening shortly after I installed CCleaner, which I know is a useful application, but it has a knack for deleting/moving files which subsequently screws your machine

 

Any advice in this matter would be appreciated

Got to "start up" and untick anything to do with Realtek (and any other crap whilst you are there)

This seems to have been happening since the latest round of windows updates, have you tried installing the lastest drivers/apps for the sound card? Realtek HD Audio Download Page

that'll explain it as I had this problem on one PC and just assumed the user had installed something that clashed.

This was caused by windows update!! The affected DLLs were a part of the last "Patch Tuesday" fix for an animated cursor problem that let black hats run code remotely.

Patch Tuesday is next week. The patches released earlier this week were out of cycle due to the ANI vulnerability being actively exploited.

As has been said, that error is due to the out of sync Ani Patch last week, it screws over pritty much all Realtek stuff so not good fun really. They have releaed a patch to fix the patch that fixed the patch but its not a must have update or anything via WSUS or anything, its a 1 by 1 job at present as "it only affects a small number of users" Now hold on a moment, I can think of a lot of computers that have Realtek chipsets for sound! Never mind, MS will soon sort it out

Indeed, the Realtek drivers and the associated GUI control panel that has the problem seems to be common on Acer, Dell and HP desktop PCs for example.
