Andycat Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Hi all, Question from the wife really, as she uses Lancs NGfL email from her school (Penwortham Girls) In her OWA (Exchange 2007) her sent items don't appear from her work desktop Outlook. Only sent items from OWA. Is this a general Lancs setting for OWA, or is her account setup incorrectly on Exchange (as POP instead of Exchange maybe?). Is this something her tech in school can look at, or is it a County thing? I've never worked in a Lancs school, even though we're bang in the middle of Lancashire (Blackburn)! Thanks in advance, Andy

Is it all sent items or some? 3. Are you sure there isn't a view set in OWA? 4. What if you try search for email in sent items? Anything come up? 5. Has this ever worked? 6. Verify this - Use MFCMapi and navigating to the Sent Items folder. There is an attribute PR_Attr_Hidden, PidTagAttributeHidden,ptagAttrHidden Is this valiue True or False? If true change to false. 1

When using IMAP/MAPI you only get system critical folders and that is you lot. Outlook anywhere caused a high load on the owa webservers so they decided to not release it fully. 1

So is there a way of asking to get Outlook Anywhere? She'd also like her work emails on her phone as well, but this could be a bridge too far...

OA, will depends if this has been setup by you Exch admin. 3. Emails on phone, well you should be able to do that anyway using the OWA address (dont think your admin would have disabled that). ChrisH Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 The Lancs setup is as follows: OWA setup as you would expect. Outlook clients setup via POP3 over SSL type connection. That is why you are not getting the synchronisation you are expecting and you will not be able to. This is the only configuration they offer unless you host your own server and publish it but the connector license cost puts most people off this. 1
sukh Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Thanks fo rthe clarification Chris. I have no idea how it is setup. However, with your info, The OP issue is that POP3 is being used, therefore this is normal. If you can get them to switch to SMTP then it's different.

ChrisH Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Well the set up is SMTP server (out) and POP3 server (in). I thought for the functionality to work as asked it would need to be IMAP or the proper Exchange protocols?
sukh Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 1. SMTP would be the core protocol for Exch, so what I am saying is remove POP3, switch over to SMTP. (so when using Exch like this you're either using MAPI or RPC/HTTPS) this will ensure the requirements are met, for OWA & OA & EAS. Confused or didbt I explain myself properly in my last post?

Our school was piloting it before we moved over to our own in house exchange server, i will pm you the way to get outlook anywhere as it should be enabled sitewide. 1

The way I read it was you were talking about the client configuration as being smtp only and this would keep the folders synchronised like imap, mapi, rpc etc. This is what totally confused me and what I know about smtp. All is well in my head now

Or Would Outlook Anywhere solve this? 2. The Mail on phone worked fine with the OWA details, thanks. Thanks for all your continued help guys.
sukh Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 1. If you can, ask if you can use OA, using MAPI will allow you to see sent items, and ibox, calendar etc.... 2. You can also then synch your phone via Exch Active synch.
