One things for sure, we will still be complaining ;)

Oh yes, in 27 years time teachers still won't be able to turn on a projector.

Informational singularity, each of us with our own private noospheres, able to interlink and communicate with other's at will. Augmented reality will be commonplace through GAG displays (gloves and goggles) meaning that we can all walk around in our own customised bubble-reality (to a point). Whole new concepts of crime and communications, and quite possible with a generation on the way who will be as alien to us in their way of interacting with technology/extelligence as we are to the previous generation who struggle with google.

Add to that expert systems bordering on emergent property complexity, and that's where I think/hope it goes.

The future is already here - I know this because ... I didn't understand a word of that.

I'm going to go with the option that Apes take over and humans become nothing but slaves.......

Now that would make a good film....

Now that would make a good film....

I could get James Franco to star in it.........wait a second!

Actually, this raises a question, if 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' is based on Earth, where did Mark Wahlberg arrive from in the 2001 film 'Planet of the Apes'......in the 2001 film are they making out that there is another planet inhabited by humans who are at a similar technological point as us?

Intriguing!

Edit; just checked on IMDB and they use the sentence "an abrupt detour through a space time wormhole lands him on a strange planet where talking apes rule over the human race" so that could mean an alternate reality or anything......

Maybe the 2001 Planet of the Apes actually visited the 2011 "Rise of the Planet of the Apes".......actually i'm just confusing myself now.....

Off to lie down.

Didn't both Wahlberg and Heston leave the Earth and get trapped in some kind of Space/Time Continuum?

Therefore, coming back to Earth, many years in the future?

That's why they had NASA on their spacesuits?

"It is the year 2029: Astronaut Leo Davidson (Wahlberg) boards a pod cruiser on a Space Station for a "routine" reconnaissance mission. But an abrupt detour through a space time wormhole lands him on a strange planet where talking apes rule over the human race."

- Tablet and smart devices and cloud storage ruling. No more local logins or servers

- New input devices for computers

- An Internet arms race

- Move away from oil and some kind of related crisis

- Probably some kind of war!

I think gloves and glasses will replace tablets by then, but always-on high-bandwidth connectivity and cloud storage seems likely.

The death of...

Books (which saddens me greatly), postcards and paper mail.

The oil and gas industry and k's of the elderly as they gouge out the last of their profits in soaring energy costs.

Privacy

The birth of ..

Flexible screens widely available- heralding embedded video 'newspapers' ala Harry Potter.

Genuinely unified communications - fully portable identities

Not the cheeriest of outlooks but as the band Stars say "When there's noting left to burn you have to set yourself on fire"

So maybe we need the catastrophic fail before the phoenix like rebirth.

The original, with Chuck H, had the astronauts travelling through space for 2006 years, in suspended animation!
