Xp setting will not hold for any user

Hi guys,

I'm trying to set up a new computer... (for a new IT suit)

 

The settings will not hold after I log off and back on as a different user

And it’s not just program settings; it is everything... even down to the keyboard settings :-(

 

As soon as I login as administrator it works for that user only (administrator)

Then when I login as anyone else the setting are not the same...

 

The settings will only hold for administrator..

 

I have made sure its in the correct place in AD

 

 

 

Has anyone had this problem? I could really use some assistance.

You sure it's been given the right profile? Sounds more like you've got mandatory profiles on, so it's not uploading any info, and downloading that profile every time.

Im pretty sure it has been.. All i normally do is add it to the domain then restart the computer and log in as a student...

 

then its like all default

 

the computer did have windows vista on and we have taken them down to Xp... This shouldnt be a problem should it?

check user profile for ntuser.dat - if it's ntuser.man then there's your answer.

Im lost.. Ive even tried reinstalling windows and its still doing it..

 

Anyone one know what I can do ?

I assume we're talking about profiles here and not group policies being applied (or not as this topic might be!).

 

Are we saying when they log on that the profile is different to how it should be?

 

When a user logs on for the first time they will create new profile with a copy of the "default user" profile. The issue might be that the "default profile" hasn't been set right and when users log in and create a new profile that they are picking up the wrong settings? Just because you change things under the local admin doesn't necessarily mean the default user profile is updated!

 

The way I do it is to create a new local user and log in as them. Change all the settings to have them appear as you want them for the other users when they log on.

 

Then log out. Log on as local admin. Copy the contents of the new users profile to the "default user" profile and now whenever anyone logs on they'll pick those up.
