Hello,

I'm in the early stages of Office 2010 rollout.

All existing users docs are opening in word in Protected View. They have top click the button to enable editing. How do I stop this? I want them to open their own docs (on a DFS share) without going through protected view.

In GP, the only setting that makes a difference is

User\Admin Templates\MS Word 2010\Word Options\Security\Trust Center\Trusted Locations\Allow Trusted Locations on the Network

There are settings for trusted locations in

...\MS Office 2010\Security Settings\Trust Center\...

but none of these make a difference.

I thought that the MS Office setting would apply to all Office apps (the descriptions say they do).

Can anyone tell me what setting they have for the trust center and protected view?

Thanks.

You also need to specify the trusted location. What you may have done (and I'm assuming here because you don't mention it in your post) is said 'Yes, I want you to trust documents on my network' but not told it where your network is. Should be some more settings in User\Admin Templates\MS Word 2010\Word Options\Security\Trust Center\Trusted Locations\Trusted Location 1 etc

I have the same problem at the moment -I'll have to check on that potential solution tomorrow, although its not high on my priority list at the moment, not matter what some people may think

Thanks Gareth,

I made this policy earlier today, with the intention of removing the protected view facility in office for us on the Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Publisher, only thing I would add, is make sure that you have decent AV in place if your using it, because it will open nearly everything with the protected view disabled.

It also disables the first run screen from 2010 and the participation in the customer improvement program.

If you want to test how it works also with downloading files from the internet, I use the following pages for downloaded files.

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Volume Activation Planning Guide Windows 7 - Word Document

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Office 2010 Administrative Templates and OCT - Excel Document

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Getting Started with PowerPoint 2010 - Powerpoint file - pptx file (86 mb)

Search results for ""Templates for Publisher"" - Templates - Office.com - I downloaded a publisher template straight off the office website here it opened without any bars or protected view
