We've been asked by a school to reset the SIMs Administrator Account password which has been lost. We've received a patch from Capita to reset the password but that requires admin access to the SQL instance (or so I'm told). Can anyone give any guidance on how to go about this - knowledgbase articles etc.

Thanks in advance.

The user is most likely "sa" password could be anything.

EDIT: Is there a "trusted" option for login?

So it sounds like you need the SA (SQL admin) account to run the patch which resets the SIMS "Sysman" password - is this correct?

If so then as @creese said if you have a trusted or mixed mode SQL installation then you can reset the SA password reasonably easily.

With full SQL (not sure about express) you can reset it within the management studio.

If you can't do that then you can do it through osql at the command line.

I agree with @K.C.Leblanc that it's worth speaking to the LA Support team as they may have a record of it, or might have set up services (eg runtime backups) that use it.
