Synctoy

We use synctoy for our staff to take data home, one of our teachers uses his external harddrive instead of just taking a synchronised laptop when he gets it home all this files are read only and has to re-save them under a different name to be able to edit them. I have tried changing permissions, but this didn't work. Anyone any idea what I could do to get this working? thinking maybe he needs an account on his computer at home with the same user name and password as he uses in school. or anyone got any other ideas?

If it's applying ACLs to the files is the device formatted with NTFS? Maybe format it as FAT? Depends on the size and if your happy formatting FAT. That may or may not fix it .

how is the sync set up are you using Echo Synchronise or contribute

 

if the person is editing the right folder id use synchronise,

as echo only works left to right and it sounds like you are going to want to work both ways?

 

only recently being using synctoy and the contribute doesnt appear to set any readonly attributes but them iam backing up from a PC to a PC over a network share with the same user name and passwords

Turned out that because staff member was taking and external hard drive home, the permissions weren't set correctly all that was needed was to add his Home admin user to have full control rights to each synchronised Folder

I was having the exact same problem! I will try this out when I get home tongiht and see how it all transfers back. edugeek to the rescue again!
