New icon has appeared on the task bar, what is it about - +1 links to Google login?

It's the Google+ equivalent of "Like". It seems to have sprung up everywhere overnight, I've even seen it in a few places where there are no facebook/twitter buttons too.

Does it not "post" your like to your G+ wall like a facebook "like"? I'm logged into G+ and have +1'ed a few pages and nothing appears.

It puts them under the +1 bit in your profile. You can then set up who gets to see it.

Plus you can see if your Google friends (not necessarily Google+ friends... just someone you know with a Google account) has liked any of the search results that appear in a Google search.
