SmartBoard rubbing out while using pen

Hi all. I have done a search and not found anyone with a similar problem to what we're experiencing.

 

One of our smartboards will randomly change to the rubber, often while the teacher is writing/drawing on the board. It's not always the case though, as I've seen the rubber icon appear suddenly when the board and computer are unused. As you can imagine this is infuriating to the teacher, as he'll lose his work as he's writing, and the only way to fix it is return the pen, pick up the rubber, then put it back again.

 

Any ideas?

Probably not this, but check the photosensors in the trays aren't clagged up or somehow being activated. (Though this is more likely to cause the pens not to work, IIRC).

Smartboards work via a light sensor on the tray... I'd start looking there for issues.

We usually stick some blutac in the light sensors for the rubber slot. They will have to manually select it using menus but at least it's not affecting other functions.
