Little-Miss Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 We've got a SIMS - OMR DRSCD210 (yes i know, its old!). It's worked quite happily for years, but then cus we lost a couple of admin machines in the fire the office bought some more, but these dont have a serial port on. So i've installed a Keyspan adaptor and thats quite happy....but when you try to use the OMR in sims its says it cant handshake with it. Do these things need drivers? I cant find any mention of any on t'internet. Any suggestions on getting it to work with new machine? Thanks

Little-Miss Posted July 8, 2011 Author Posted July 8, 2011 Ok, i left admin for 5 minutes and look what happens...it's a good thing i like them!! Now getting the message "unable to write to comm port. The parameter is incorrect"...any ideas?
SYNACK Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Make sure that there are no powersave features enabled on the USB device, unplug/replug it (usb device) and make sure that there is only one copy of the program trying to talk to it running at a time. You may also need to recheck the settings for stuff like the flow control, parity bits etc. Sometimes this information is written on the device (baud rate, parity, stopbits, etc) you may also need to restart the serial device as they can get unstable when they are written to at the wrong baud rate or comm settings.

Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. Chris_Cook Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 We had a very similar issue when we replaced an office computer. We could never get it working with the keyspan device (which seem otherwise very good). The issue was finally resolved with an internal pci or pci-express serial card. I don't think it was that expensive, about £15 iirc. 1
Little-Miss Posted July 9, 2011 Author Posted July 9, 2011 Grrr, hope i can get the keyspan working. Im hoping its a time-out thing as i tested it when i checked port settings, then i turned the OMR off as they didnt need it for a while....

Mac6 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Most of the previous suggestions should work. It may be an issue when you change log ins from Admin to User. Check the port numbers & Baud rate are the same in hardware manager & SIMS. Log in as the User then try & make any changes then. You may be promted to sign in as Admin when making the changes. Seen this a few times. No rhyme or reason sometimes for the prob. Just Windows being a pain....
dyoung5 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 We had exactly the same problem with a Keyspan. We couldn't fix it, and in the end we installed a PCI serial card.

Have you tried the keyspan jobbie on another machine or with a different device? Have you completely uninstalled the drivers and re-installed them?

On a laptop, anyone know of an alternative, reliable method of getting a serial port other than via a USB adapter? No PCMCIA slots, so USB was really all I had to go on!

With your ref to PCMCIA slots I'm assuming that your on a laptop. Might be worth looking at a docking station if the laptop supports it which usually come with the extras like a serial port.
