jinnantonnixx Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 My Google maps has just upgraded on Android (now at 5.7.0) and under the 'Labs' section there's an option to download a map area to storage. This will be handy for use abroad or where you predict poor phone coverage. 2
Gerry Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Saw the article about the update on Lifehacker this morning, thought it might help with SkyDroid (golf distance app. that also uses Google Maps), but it doesn't
jinnantonnixx Posted July 7, 2011 Author Posted July 7, 2011 wonder if you can cache the entire uk lol Only one way to find out..... hmmmm... I think the mapping data is pretty efficient, so it could actually be a goer.
jinnantonnixx Posted July 7, 2011 Author Posted July 7, 2011 Thinking about it, it might be worth doing as a matter of course for your area. Or my area in my case. This will speed up loading and avoid hassle if there's a poor signal. I might try it later to see how it works.
Cache Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Went to London on Friday, cached the data for the wimbledon area to save on data costs before I left. Worked pretty well.
Gibbo Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I use the app Maverick, it lets you cache maps from a number of sources. Maverick - Android app on AppBrain
