LMAO....signed please :D

although positive rep is prefered.

I'm all talk, I don't even know how to do it.

As I said yesterday, the way it is used makes it meaningless to me.

For cold hard cash I could get you up the ladder, for charity of course.

yes, always is, I think its fair the people know who is repping them, good or bad.

The problem is that there could be some comeback if you know who has left bad rep. I have seen it happen...

It happened to me from someone who thought I'd left neg rep... and it wasn't me.

I am just saying that mainly rep is based on the quality of the posts rather than quantity and length of service.

To a degree yes, but you're own example is a great example that it doesn't necessarily mean you're a better contributor to the website. No offence, but I'm sure you wouldn't argue that @ZeroHour and @Dos_Box have contributed quite a lot to this website :p

All I'm saying is that some people put too much weight in the rep system: those of us that have been around here a while know who to go to and who to ignore, we don't need the rep system to tell us that

EDIT: just noticed you said @localzuk, not @ZeroHour but I still think my point stands...

Also take into account that rep didn't exist until not so long ago, and also take into account that much rep is given for jokes etc... and not necessarily insightful or useful posts.

Rep isn't supposed to be a perfect system, its just a very rough indicator with plenty of flaws.

Generally I find the neg rep system works ok. Yes, I've been a bit peeved at some of the neg reps I've had, but when I look back at what I posted a day or two later I've usually seen and understood why I got the neg rep. Don't forget you always have the option to report it to the admins if you feel you are getting malicious neg rep as they can see who sent it and have the option to remove it.

It does look pretty when you get a star though! :p

A perfectly good reason to get rid of it.

Or at least cut it down to a positive/negative indicator so that newbies to the site know who to ignore, possibly even having a limit on neg rep before a ban

It wasn't until these various threads started discussing it that I noticed that little bit of text at the bottom. I was going more by the green and orange blocks at the top. So yes, I agree with what you suggest.

Nephilim has a lot of rep due to thanked posts he has made, dos and me wont get anywhere near as much as you can thank on the frontpage and in general we dont post as often although a quick database edit... :D

And he deserves it for that!

@nephilim - just in case you were offended, my comments weren't aimed as a dig at yourself or to throw doubt on your reputation, merely to prove the point that the rep isn't the be all and end all that some people think it is...

I think people take rep too personally myself. I get neg rep quite often, as I seem to rub quite a few people up the wrong way, but hey, that's just my personality it seems. :)

Ooops, we've just made Zerohour a 2 Star General, someone send him a load of neg rep before it goes to his head:p

Your wish is my command ...

Sorry ZH ... he made me do it! ;-)

(only joking ...)

My personal take on the rep system is to misquote Oscar Wilde...

"The only thing worse than getting negative rep...is getting no rep"
