Need a virtal program to practice Windows Server 2008 R2 on

Hi guys,

 

Im looking for a virtal program To test out / practice Windows Server 2008 R2

 

Ideally I need a free on as the school are not willing to pay out

 

Please help

Can't you install it on a random standalone desktop? Or do you specifically want virtual?

Sun Virtualbox. Been good for me. As long you got the system to run a virtual pc.

Do you mean a free virtual machine to install the OS on? There are loads available, like VMWare Player, though you'll need a 64 bit host for R2.

you can set vmware to act as if its 64 bit on a 32 bit host tho

Thanks for the reply guys.. I could set it up on a standalone computer but the only spare one we have is ready to go out when a computer goes down.

 

As long as its free thats all that matters

 

ill try VMWare Player So i need to have the bootabul windows disk?

If possible use a spare workstation and install the full version of ESXi or XEN or HyperV as that is what you would be using in a production environment so makes sense to practice on it.

 

If thats absoloutly not possible then VMWare Workstation / Sun virtualbox are both fairly straightforward to install and use on an existing station.

iirc the free vmware dosent allow you to do snapshots where as free virtualbox does and when testing thats a damned handy feature (id be very reluctant to try it on a live system esp if its a dc though)

All done... I needed to go into my Bios and Find "intel VT" and enable it... now its installing nicley
