computerguy85 Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Hello all, I was just wondering if anything needs to be done different to the CC4 server to allow me to install SIMS onto it. Am going from two servers to just the one and it will be running my SIMS database. Cheers
johnpd Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I've been asking the LEA about it as well as a primary feeder school I support has a good CC4 install with all the space and compute power they need. This also would resolve issues for them regards setting up trusts between the external AD at county and the internal AD on the curriculum side. I assume SQL 2008 server is going to be the main issue here ?

But as im going to be installing it my self i was just wondering if anything different needs to be done to the server or whether SIMS can just be installed onto the CC4 server without a problem.
johnpd Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I assume it's pretty straight forward - giving it the DB sa account to change data in the database or maybe giving it a user with the ACLS required. I'll have a look for a document on it - getting your old data across will require SA password. Database management here is key - I've set a few up and it can take a considerable amount of time getting all the permissions correct and more importantly safe. Anyway I'm off hunting for the docs that might give some insight.

Make sure that your server is of sufficient spec, I hope you aren't running RMVP5 on the server as well as adding SIMS could kill it.

Because RMVP5 is an absolute resource hog, running it alongside all the RM stuff, general server services, *and* SIMS (with SQL which is another resource hog) is (in my opinion) not a good idea. If you are talking about an existing server then its going to be sever 2003 and limited to 4Gb RAM, which is don't believe is enough to smoothly run all those things. Butuz Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Are you a Primary or Secondary? If Primary then yes you can get away with SIMS on the CC4 server. If secondary then I wouldn't reccomend it. You'd be much better off setting up a new server for SIMS. Do not underestimate: A) how much resource all of the CC4 guff uses on the server and B) how much CPU and RAM resource SIMS needs in a large school with perhaps 80+ concurrent users and possibly Sims Learning Gateway etc Butuz.

At my primary schools SIMS is in constant use - electronic reg, assessment analysis, reporting, profiles, SLG etc so wouldn't be happy having it on CC4 FRDC. But then they are large schools so the demands are probably higher. Getting the spec right is going to be the key here.

So is there anything i need to look out for with installing it to a fresh CC4 server or is it just like installing it to any other server?
