jamin100 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Does anyone know where I can get some dirt cheap DVD players? Nothing fancy just a simple DVD player to hook up to whiteboards Ideally around the £10 mark? I remember buying one in asda or tesco a while ago but they all seem to be closer to £20 now
localzuk Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Asda have them for £17.50. I think that's the cheapest you're going to find - inflation and the weak pound is hammering us on prices over here now. That's £14.58 exc VAT I believe. ASDA Sp Dvdtl01 Dvd Player | DVD Player | ASDA direct

That or you normally get power dvd bundled ?

Yes all the whiteboards have computers attached to them, however the head want the dinner supervisors to be able to play a DVD during wet play etc and I dont think that the dinner supervisors will be able to get them playing through the PC!
teejay Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 They'll still have problems playing DVD's if you connect the DVD player to the whiteboard. You might have more luck if you connect it to the projector that projects onto the whiteboard...
mats Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Ah, but your projector probably presents a vga cable - how does that work with cheap dvd players (yup, got a similar problem!).

Can't either ammend the shortcut to windows media player classic or vlc to automatically play the dvd or a script on startup for a local account that will do this so all they have to do is logon with an account ( assuming the projector is on the correct channel to display the output from said computer ) Think you would have to set the projector as the main display though
plexer Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 In classrooms I would prefer a cheap dvd player over using a laptop as it frees the laptop up to be used by the teacher whilst a portion of a dvd is show. Yes you could acheive the same effect by extending the desktop rather than cloning it but that involves moving a window from one display to another, standalone dvd couple of buttons to press. Ben
laserblazer Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 The problem with cheap dvd players is just that! We have a few and they are far from satisfactory. Some don't play RW some skip, the remotes don't work. Real PITA.
mats Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Every projector we have here has a composite input... Time to run another cable..
