Having a problem getting iPads or iPhones to connect to our WiFi in the school, we have our usual WEP filtering on and Mac address filtering, I have added the Mac's and that's fine but they just refuse to connect?

 

My phone (iPhone 4) doesn't connect either, no idea why? We have 30 iPads so frustrating not getting them to connect, the AP's I'm trying on are Cisco Air 1131's off the top of my head - I'm sure there must be some configuration on them as we have a temp building with 2 Meru AP's and the Controller in our main switch cabinet and they connect within seconds to them?

 

Any help would be appreciated.

As far as I am aware the iphone / ipads only work on the 2.4ghz band ( not the 5 ghz band ). I presume the cisco air 1131's have the latest firmware on them ? Same with ipads / iphones ref latest firmware ?

 

Just as a test maybe try it without the mac filtering, if that does not work then try completely open and work your way backwards as far as adding security , one thing at a time to see when it stops working

Shouldn't be security - we're using Trapeze managed, and iPhones connect quite happily via RSN(WPA2)-PSK using TKIP and WEP-104 ciphers.

All software is up to date on all AP's and we have tried with 0 security at all and still the same? My iPhone connected once but didn't get an IP and then disconnected straight away again? Very strange so I'm thinking it's down to (well guessing) the AP's work on 5GHz band and the Apple Products don't?

diddnt i read somewhere that ios devices can be iffy if you have abg and n transmitting with the same (or different i cant remember) ssid they get confused iirc

As in on the actual device? There's no way of changing it on iOS devices? Just finds a network and joins it, you cant actually tell it to transmit N network only for example.

as in on the ap's might be worth adding a 2nd n only (if they support it) profile with a diff ssid/pass etc

Might look into that, then both will run at the same time correct? Will see if they support it, not sure I have spotted anything like that before though.
